Detailed Itinerary

The walk in to the refuge is well signposted from the Gioberney car park and takes about 2 hours.

Once you arrive at the refuge, the guardian will show you your room and the guide will come and meet you in the evening and show you the route and go through your equipment and rucksacks for the summit. Then it is dinner and an early night ready for your Alpine start.

This mountaineering trip starts with an early Alpine start at 4 or 5 am in the morning from the Pigeonnier refuge.

The start of Les Rouies is a rocky path, which you will do in the dark with your headtorch for light. This takes you up to the snow field and glacier where you will put on your crampons, rope up if necessary and get out your your ice axe. You will walk with 1 ice axe and 1 walking pole for this summit.

The glacier is large and spectacular and you will be rewarded with spectacular views across the Ecrins massif. The guide will give you tips on cramponing and walking over a glacier. The last section is a scramble / easy climb to get to the summit and then you have a fun descent all the way back down to the refuge. This is a lot easier physically than the walk up!
